This week, we celebrated KBK’s 7th birthday, and what a special afternoon it was! The children wandered happily around the spaces, confident and relaxed, moving between activities with ease and curiosity. Some collaborated team racing and ball games, others shared quiet moments exploring nature, and all of them showed the kind of respect and care for one another that makes KBK feel like a true second home. Upsets were rare, which was a lovely reminder of the trusting relationships we’ve built over the years.
One of the highlights of the day was our walk down memory lane. We displayed photographs from each year since 2018, both on a TV slideshow and in printed photo books. Children giggled and pointed, spotting themselves and friends in past adventures. “Look! That’s me in the mud kitchen!” and “I remember making that cubby!” rang out, sparking conversations about how much everyone has grown and the new friends who have joined our community along the way. Families loved this trip through the years too, pausing to chat, laugh, and reminisce. It was such a warm reminder that KBK is more than a place for learning—it’s a place where connections grow, memories are made, and relationships are cherished.
Even more touching was noticing the long-term family connections within our community. Many families have been part of KBK since 2018, and some have even brought multiple children through our doors. Seeing siblings follow in each other’s footsteps, enjoying the same playful spaces and learning experiences, really shows the strength of these partnerships. It’s a reflection of how much families feel valued and supported here—something that continues to be at the heart of what we do.
The birthday celebration also gave us a chance to reflect on how traditions and continuity help children feel a sense of belonging. The children excitedly drew their photo’s for our annual tea towel and our fabulous photographer Tim organised invididual, family and group photos. Being able to see themselves in past photos, revisit familiar spaces, and share stories with friends and family reinforces their identity and pride in the KBK community. And the joy on everyone’s faces, from little ones to parents and educators, reminded us that these moments are just as meaningful as any structured activity.
Looking forward, we’re excited to let the children take an even bigger role in telling the story of KBK. Maybe they’ll help choose captions, pick frames, or even create a collaborative art piece to go alongside the photos. It’s a simple way to let them shape the story of their own experiences while celebrating the year that’s passed.
KBK’s 7th birthday wasn’t just about marking time—it was about celebrating the relationships, growth, and sense of belonging that make our community so special. As we shared memories, laughed together, and looked to the year ahead, it felt clear that KBK is more than a place to learn—it’s a place where children, families, and educators truly grow together.
